Misson Statement
The arts are unique in learning situations because unlike many other learning subjects, there are no clear right or wrong answers. Everything is up to interpretation, in fact, some of the most famous artists were those who broke the "rules" of art. I think we have a mission statement so that the administration appears to have a more active role in our education. I think that most of the objectives aren't something that is taught in the classroom. Things like responsibility and the ability to work in a group and contribute to their community is something not covered in the classroom. Either a student is responsible or not, or is able to work with others or not, and no teacher is going to be able to teach them that. It is something they have to willingly undertake on their own. I feel that the points in social expectations are important for college but as I said before, they cannot be taught. Civic expectations, and academic expectations expressed in the mission statement don't really apply to college, with a few exceptions. Things like communication strategies are social, not academic.

Breadth
Well, I think that this trimester I have been pleasantly surprised with what I've done. I have a good start to a balanced portfolio. I'm only missing some paintings... problem is that the college that I wants requires 10 observation DRAWINGS! Not just pencil, but it hampers the process on my breadth. But I'm going to focus on what the college wants because I feel that it's more important. I am excited to see everyone kind of starting to do their own thing, and it's cool because their own unique styles are showing through their pieces. Good Work All!

A Fantasy Artist
One of the items on my list of 100 things was fantasy. I love the genre of fantasy and am so enthralled by warriors, monsters, dragons, and epic tales. An artist named Samwise Didier is the art director at Blizzard entertainment and oversees and draws for Blizzard's games and comics. His drawings and sketches and other pieces are so iconic of his own style and I think they represent the creatures he draws so perfectly and have really characterized the games that Blizzard makes.

My Favorite Pieces

My favorite piece that I have done myself, is my colored pencil piece that I did at the end of last year with the wizard in his study. And I chose Norman Rockwell's piece of himself painting himself using a mirror. I like my piece because of the thought process I had while making the piece. I had an entire story about the wizard and his life as well as his connections to all of the artifacts in his study. I like this Rockwell piece because it feels really goofy to me, and I like seeing that in art pieces, it allows for the artist's personality to show through. The only thing that I seems similar between these two pieces is that they both show the artist's personality through their piece. However mine is very fictional, and Rockwell's is very non-fictional. In fact I LOVE making things that are not real, and Rockwell is famous for portraying everyday events in America. I suppose that these pieces connect to my love of personal expression, while remaining an individuality. Which includes being goofy and putting what you love into your art pieces.
