Misson Statement
The arts are unique in learning situations because unlike many other learning subjects, there are no clear right or wrong answers. Everything is up to interpretation, in fact, some of the most famous artists were those who broke the "rules" of art. I think we have a mission statement so that the administration appears to have a more active role in our education. I think that most of the objectives aren't something that is taught in the classroom. Things like responsibility and the ability to work in a group and contribute to their community is something not covered in the classroom. Either a student is responsible or not, or is able to work with others or not, and no teacher is going to be able to teach them that. It is something they have to willingly undertake on their own. I feel that the points in social expectations are important for college but as I said before, they cannot be taught. Civic expectations, and academic expectations expressed in the mission statement don't really apply to college, with a few exceptions. Things like communication strategies are social, not academic.
